No more Jon Huntsman

I just stumbled upon this announcement that Jon Huntsman will be dropping out of the election effectively on Monday. Instead of being a front contender, he has stated his intent to endorse Mitt Romney. His support for Romney has shown throughout his campaign. In last weeks debate, Huntsman was careful not to attack Romney but focus more on sharing his views on certain issues and his qualifications. Recently, he backed up Romney in the Bain issue yet later bashed him by saying that he is ‘unelectable’. This decision may hint that Huntsman may now want to be more than a supporter to Romney but his Vice President. Huntsman finished third in the New Hampshire primary which would have made him a viable candidate to certainly place high in the South Carolina GOP primary. To read more about this and Huntsman’s campaign, here is the article on Wall Street Journal. Do you think this was the right decision?

i think huntsman would make for a great VP. I don’t believe Romney has tons of foreign experience and Huntsman could fill that gap nicely for Romney. Also Huntsman has similar moderate views as Romney.

I liked Huntsman and thought that he was one of the most reasonable GOP candidates, but he really didn’t have any other choice. It’s clear that the support just wasn’t there for him moving forward in the primaries. I think he’s supporting Romney to get on good terms with the Republican establishment and is looking forward to 2016. I can’t see Romney picking Huntsman for the VP slot just because of the similarities between the two. Rather than having two fairly-moderate Mormons on the ticket, it would make more sense to broaden the ticket with a more-conservative VP pick.

I agree. Huntsman was a great candidate. If he had more popularity I feel like he would be a good candidate to be the republican nomination.

Huntsman would have been a great president foreign policy which would have been great but I don’t think he would have been much better at much else. If Romney chooses him as VP, I think that would be a great combination as long as they work well together and get the right policies made.
