Bad Moral Character and Fake Emails

Recently, Marianne Gingrich went on her first television interview since her 1999 divorce from Newt Gingrich. In her interview she told ABC News that she believes Newt lacks the moral character to serve as president. She said his campaign positions on the sanctity of marriage and the importance of family values do not correspond to what she saw in their 18 years of marriage. Marianne claimed that while Newt was having an affair with his then congressional aide, now current wife Callista, he told Marianne that he wanted an open marriage. When Marianne declined, Newt continued his affair with Callista and not long after filed for divorce from Marianne. This whole scandal was taking place during the same time Gingrich condemned President Bill Clinton for his lack of moral leadership. This tells me that Gingrich clearly understood that what he was doing was wrong and simply didn’t care.

On the heels of this news from Marianne a fake email alert was sent to at least two members of the South Carolina GOP Executive Committee from a fake account that made it look like CNN breaking news. This fake email said that a source close to Marianne Gingrich said that Newt forced her to abort a pregnancy conceived during an affair that preceded her marriage to Gingrich. Marianne did not make this claim. It’s obvious that a scandal like this so close to the South Carolina primary could be very harmful to Gingrich’s campaign being that a fundamental belief of all of the current GOP candidates is that abortion should be outlawed.

With scandals, controversy, and bad moral character following Newt I don’t see how he will make it past the primaries. I don’t believe Americans would elect a person with his background president. If the Republican Party really wants to win they need a candidate with much less baggage. Guess we’ll see how South Carolina goes.

I agree Gingrich has too much baggage and questionable actions to be the Republican nominee for President. Also I can’t believe how much success Gingrich is having in South Carolina.
