Rick “The Sweater Vest” Santorum vs. Mitt “The Storming Mormon” Romney

Politics is a sport that you can never place bets, not because it would be immoral, but because the underdog can always come from behind. Rick “The Sweater Vest” Santorum having gone through some tough fights in New Hampshire and South Carolina has been starting to level the playing field in recent primaries and currently is ahead in the polls in Michigan. Now his opponents Mitt “The Storming Mormon” Romney has been taking some political hits and received a nasty right hook from Santorum in the form of the “Mud Gun” Ad.  The fact is Romney has been slinging a lot of mud attacking Gingrich on things that some could argue Romney himself did at Bain Capital. I really think Santorum does two things with this ad. He gets across that all Romney has is attacks; he attacks Obama, Gingrich, and Santorum. In most of the speeches all he does is attack but does he real ever talk about what he will do. His big appeal to voters is that he bashs Obama and has “front-runner” status. The second thing Santorum gets across is that Romney has baggage from Bain Capital, and we all know you don’t throw the first stone if you live in a glass house. Now Romney is nowhere near down for the count but I have to question what does he have left in the tank for conservatives who are worried about jobs when Romney has a hard time connecting to the average Joe and Jane who works from 9 to 5.  I know because I have asked people in my hometown, even before he was a front runner and they had uneasy feeling about the guy.

The greatest strengths of Santorum is his endurance, political convictions, and he is the only candidate that I feel has had a scandal. Santorum has stuck it out when most would say drop out and he stayed on focus and kept true to his strong conservative beliefs that will resonate strongly with conservatives that don’t want Romney, a middle of the road conservative. Also Santorum hasn’t cheated on his wife, hasn’t use “questionable” business tactics and hasn’t said anything that hurt his campaign. Now he might be an extreme conservative and no one is calling him a moderate but everything that he loses voters on is his beliefs not stupid political moves like Gingrich or Romney. The “The Sweater Vest” can even give one hell of a debate performance. Gingrich tried to win on the ticket of “I’m the other option to Romney” and that failed but Santorum is making his rise on the ticket of “I’m Rick Santorum. Period!”

Also on a side note I would real love to see a boxing match between Mitt and Rick or heck get Obama in on the action as well.
